Top Vacation Spots in San Diego County

It’s easy to see why San Diego County attracts millions of visitors from all over the world each year. With its year round perfect weather and stunning beaches, it’s an idyllic vacation destination. Here the top 3 spots to vacation in San Diego County.

Del Mar

Del Mar is a great place to vacation in San Diego, especially in the summer, when the City of Del Mar hosts both the San Diego County Fair and the annual Del Mar Races. The Fair is one of the largest in southern California and, in addition to the cattle competitions and the carnie food, visitors can enjoy concerts and shows by some of the biggest artists and musicians in the world as well as art exhibits and several warehouses full of shopping. The racetrack itself is one of the best in the country. If you’re a surfer, you’ll love the Torrey Pines State Beach in south Del Mar, which is at the bottom of 300-foot sandstone cliffs.

Coronado Island

Coronado Island has long been known as one of the prime getaway spots in San Diego County. It is, for one, the home of the famous Hotel del Coronado, a historic hotel that has hosted celebrities as far ranging as Charlie Chaplin and Brad Pitt. The hotel was also the setting for the film “Some Like it Hot”, which starred Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon. The Coronado marina offers boat and gondola rides, and there is also a ferry that goes from Downtown San Diego to Coronado and back. Guests can also take tours of San Diego on the Old Town Trolley, which passes through Coronado Island and carries passengers through a loop around the city that includes stops at the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park with its museums and gardens, Old Town and the shops at Sea Port Village.

La Jolla

La Jolla is a wealthy beach side community that is definitely one of the best places to shop. The quaint area of downtown La Jolla has a ton of high-end boutiques and restaurants. There’s also the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course, the Birch Aquarium, the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, the La Jolla Playhouse and the beautiful La Jolla Coves, where you can take a guided kayak tour of the sea cliffs and caves. If you choose a vacation rental in La Jolla you will also have great access to a variety of other neighborhoods including Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and Ocean Beach.
