Does anyone have advice for the depression that follows a great vacation?

I have been in my favorite spot on earth for the last 11 days (Maui) and I have had a fabulous, magical time. I fly home tomorrow to NC and am already very sad. My boyfriend isn’t from America and he says that when you leave a place that feels like home you can get bad depression.

Does anyone have any advice?

Don’t go on anymore vacations :) I’ve always said, vacations suck because of when you have to go back home. Just try to get back into the swing of everything back home and at work as quickly as you can. Good luck :)

  3. another vacation!!! ;)

What I usually do is bring things home with me that will remind me of the place that I will miss. A great thing to remind you of that vacation spot is music or artwork. Whenever I travel I make sure to bring home music from the area. When I’m missing a certain place, I pop in a CD and it takes me back there all over again. It will remind you of your vacation and it’s a great way to escape reality every once in a while. ;)

  5. Just take it one day at a time I went though the same thing four years go. It took me a few days to get back to normal. I guess just being in a place that’s different with no worries and meeting a lot of nice people can do that to you. You’ll be alright.

  6. Post vacation depression is so bad.
The things i do to minimize this are : make sure your house is spotless when you leave.
No one wants to return home to a mess after being at a great hotel or resort.
Have a friend bring over some essentials before you return home. Milk, bread, eggs and so on.
Try to leave enough time to return home and have a day to unpack and wash dirty clothes so they don’t pile up.
Leave the last day or so of you vacation relatively free.Relax at the pool, eat great meals and just relax.
If you start planning your next vacation while still on vacation, it won;t be such a loss as you leave.
    Good luck.I hope that helps.

Look at all the pictures and/or video you (hopefully) took, start planning for the next one and I have also found bright light helps keep me happier as opposed to dark, gloomy rooms.

I work on sharing my vacation with others – I produce my videos, get my photos in an album, cook some food from the cookbooks I buy.

Then I begin planning the next vacation!

A couple of years ago I had the chance to go to Germany for 9 weeks to study the German language and travel. A kind of sabbatical, and I was leaving a job I hated. I was very blue when I was leaving – I actually have video taken pre-dawn in a german train station all alone and I’m crying while I take it (I was on my way to frankfurt airport to come home).

I came home and started looking for a new job, but I did the videos and all, too.

I totally know what you mean! I just returned from the UK where I had a great time. Center of attention, lots of people and fun. And know I am home and feel isolated and lonely.
I would suggest start planning your next trip or consider a real life change. Move somewhere totally cool – don’t let mundaneness keep you somewhere you aren’t happy.
