So me and my boyfriend are taking out week vacation next week (wednesday – wednesday). We decided on Banff but not too sure now if we want to go there. We totalled it up, and for all the gas, car rental, camping there, etc, it would cost us almost all of the money weve saved up, never mind all the other attraction were wanting to do. So, is there anywhere else in Canada that would be a bit closer, but a great vacation spot? (We live in Winnipeg, MB)

What about Vancouver Island? It’s so pretty there, lots to see and do and Victoria is small so quite easy to get around. From there you can easily get a ferry to either Vancouver or Seattle. That is my recommendation.

  2. Consider Waterton Park in southern Alberta. Absolutely beautiful, not as touristy as Banff or Jasper and close to the US border (Glacier National Park). Writing on Stone Park is also great, as is Dinosaur National Park, all in southern Alberta.
Nordegg in northern Alberta is also a great area. There are provincial parks where you don’t pay a fee as you do with Banff or Jasper or any other National Park. In fact around Nordegg you can basically camp on the side of the road if you want and your camper is self contained. The scenery is fantastic with plenty of wildlife and again it is not as touristy as Banff or Jasper. After discovering Nordegg and Waterton I’ve not been to Banff since.
