Hi, I live in Minnesota and I’m looking for suggestions on vacation spots in Central American, North South America, or Caribbean? I don’t really want to fly further than these areas. I will be traveling with my family so nothing overly adventurous like camping in the wild. Just someplace warm, nice, with interesting things to do. We went to Belize last year and that was nice. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
Dominican Republic, it has beautiful beaches and great weather! The culture is intoxicating and the best part is that it’s relatively inexpensive to travel and stay there. If you go, plan to visit the capital, and try to go to the market places, you can’t get a gist of the country itself until you meet the people. If you’re worried about safety all I do warn you about is that you shouldn’t walk around in very expensive jewelry and attire, just because you never know.
I would say either Costa Rica with time split between Monteverde, Manuel Antonio and Arenal or on the Caribbean Coast of Columbia. Santa Marta, Colombia has beach front condos AND a beautiful national park nearby.
Colombia has so many places like Cartagena, Barranquilla, Medellin and Cali (great cities) but I always recommend the Tayrona Park in Santa Marta Colombia. The popular Tayrona Park lies at the Caribbean coast near Santa Marta in Colombia. It has some of South America’s loveliest coastline. This little, delightful spot is located about 30 minutes from the city of Rodadero, with beautiful beaches, hammocks to rent for the night, food, water and surf. Additionally, you can get a guide to take you to a native village in the nearby mountains.
The park offers a big variety of Flora and Fauna because it includes two ecosystems between the mountain and the sea. (also Santa Marta is nearby Barranquilla and Cartagena)
