What are good vacation spots out of country for summer 2008?

It’ll be 5-6 people coming, family vacation. 2 kids, 3 adults, including myself. I am looking for adventure, excitement and something other than central america/carribbean. Places in Europe are great. We need something that isn’t too expensive (e.g. france) and not halfway around the world (australia). Any suggestions are great!

Maybe Mali? [Africa] but if you’re not into bugs then don’t go there. I’ve always wanted to go to germany or italy er something. Hmmm, possibly England also? Brazil, Chile, or the netherlands seem cool too…

I’d like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it’s hard to understand why people don’t stay home.
Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere – anywhere but home.
