Great relaxing family vacation spot in February with warm weather?

My wife and baby daughter and I need a week away, sometime in mid to late February.

I want somewhere low hassle (since we have a 10 month old and my wife is pregnant (2nd trimester so it’s safe to fly). So no 15 hour flights or remote locations that have to be gotten to in lengthy or awkward ways.

I also want somewhere warm & tropical with either a beach and/or pool.

I also don’t want to be around thousands of other tourists, and I don’t want to spend a fortune. Maybe a simple island with cottages, but one that has a large airport nearby?

Any ideas? We have passports (for us, not the baby).

Thanks!

  1. Try Akumal Mexico – about 2 hours south of Cancun. Laid back, warm, beautiful and not 15 hours on a plane. Big airport nearby but not crazy like Cancun itself. Check out http://www.locogringo.com for rentals.

    Hawaii’s always an option.

I am not sure what fortune is? I live in Bonita Springs FL and there are lots of options just depending on what you are wanting to do…..Feb is reasonable in FL as most people come down in spring break or Summer. Keys are amazing and Marco Island would be pretty desolate and beautful. If I can help let me know as I have a website directing people to FL and help out all the time.

  3. If you don’t have a passport for the 10 month old, you’re limited to the US or US territories since it’s too late to get a passport for the baby by February. One place my husband and I love is Secret Harbour on St. Thomas (http://www.secretharbourvi.com). You don’t need a passport for the Virgin Islands, and St. Thomas is very easy to get to.

What makes Secret Harbour Resort special is that you feel like you’re in a place nobody knows exists (hence the name). VERY low key. It’s on the east end of St. Thomas far from the crazy cruise ship crowds, but only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get there from the airport. Their rooms range from studios to 2 bedrooms, and the resort is on a private cove with a great beach, a pool, restaurant (food was great when we were last there 4 years ago), and we loved the palapa bar on the beach at night. You really wouldn’t have to leave the place if you didn’t feel like it, but a trek to the nearby town of (again, low key) Red Hook is fun.

    Hope this helps!
